I had the pleasure of making some birthday gear for my precious little nephew's 1st birthday. I hadn't made anything quite like this before, but had tons of fun making it and there was a plethora of ideas on pinterest & etsy of course.
His theme was animals & I knew his momma was making a lion cake. Unfortunately I couldn't find fabric that better matched the color theme of the party ware , but it was stripes & polka dots with similar colors (minus the red).
First up was a onsie with a "1" and cute little lion. I used my cricut to cut a scalloped circle and a cat face which I then traced onto my fabric with fusible webbing attached & cut out. I hand stitched the whiskers, nose/mouth & running stitch on the lion's hat. The eyes were teeny tiny black buttons.
To cover his little diaper I used a pattern I found online to make a diaper cover. I decided to applique an "m" on the hiney. Next up was a bib...maybe he didn't NEED it because of the shirt, but I couldn't help myself! :) The bib I made using an old pattern from my MIL and I happened to have coordinating ribbon for the ties.
The hat was the most fun and something I've never made before. Using interfacing & fusible webbing I made the base of the hat. Appliqued the "m" and then sewed the 1/2 circle shape into the cone. I used brown and blue embroidery floss to make the pom pom on the top and then hot glued brown store bought pom poms at the base of the hat. I also used the same ribbon as the bib for the hat tie. No little boy's outfit is complete without a tie. I found a pattern online and it was super easy to put together!
Such fun to make and can't wait to see pictures of him all dolled up!!
