Third grade. I remember it well as a student. Mrs. Thomas. She was kinda scary. Tall with a stern look. A kid once got in trouble for raising his eyebrows and I'm pretty sure she grabbed his eyebrows. When she "shhhhhushed" us she would use her very long middle finger over her mouth up to her nose. The roomed seemed to have ceilings that were super tall. I got a D on a paper in 3rd grade...that my mom helped me with. I also remember crying & very much disliking the shirt I wore for my 3rd grade picture. A plaid...almost western looking shirt. Thanks mom. ;)
I remember 3rd grade as a teacher. Probably one of my favorite grades to teach...well, I say that but I loved 1st & 2nd grades too! :) The year I taught 3rd was special b/c I was expecting Emma. The students I taught I had looped with. Meaning I taught them for 2nd and 3rd grades. They were the best group of kids and I've had the pleasure of following many of them thanks to FB. I'll also shed a tear knowing they graduate this year.
So that brings me to the stark realization that it seems not too long ago I was teaching them at the very point Emma is now...and now they are graduating. So unfair how time can pass by! :)
For her first day she packed her traditional first day of school lunch- lunchable. She chose her outfit. The teacher and I chatted at open house and I told her Emma dresses business casual to school. No jeans. No athletic shoes. Nothing "sporty". Zilch. She's upped the ante this year with accessories. Belts, scarves & dressing in layers. I thank Uncle Adam for his subscription to the very cute magazine Discovery Girls. One issue a few months back had a fashion guide. It showed how you take some basic staples in a wardrobe (tank, T-shirt, capris, skirt, jacket) and mix & match to make different outfits. It's become her clothing bible.
Lucky for me when we were at Goodwill on our girls shopping trip I saw something glistening from a distance and what did my little eyes find? 3 sequin stretchy belts- orange, purple & silver. $2 each thank.you.very.much!!! It was probably the highlight of our shopping day! She chose the silver one to pair with her new pink dress for the first day. We did have to go buy the roman sandals and a pair of converse shoes b/c she only had flip flops- which aren't allowed at school.
Our sweet girl is loving school and so excited each day. I have very little doubt that teaching will be her profession. She loves LOVES school, school supplies, office items & classrooms in general! She is in love with her teacher and has come home in such a more positive spirit compared to last year. Prayers it continues!!
After her first day we had our traditional home made pizza night.
Momma wasn't feeling the best so we tried to make it quick....so I shaped the dough into triangles to look like large pieces of pizza. Emma arranged her mini pepperonis in the shape of a "3".
Aidan very proud of his pepperoni pizza with a bit of cheese.
Don't worry if you were a guest here we wouldn't cook in our undies...as cute as they may be and I'd attempt to keep the kids from eating most of the ingredients! :)
