Months ago I redecorated what you see as you walk in our front door in the blog post you can see here. Next up was to make the area surrounding our front door more usable and function to serve an actual purpose. Insert a million Pinterest ideas and a handy husband & this is what you get!!!
The point behind this project was to avoid the clump of coats you see on the railing. (Photo left) But then I wonder if my OCD can handle anything being hung there without feeling cluttered. (Photo on right) Yes I have issues, no I'm not in therapy, yes I self medicate with either Coke, Unsweet Pineapple-Papaya Green QT iced tea and or chocolate depending on the day.
Now to decide if we want to paint the door black. To break up the white a bit and we have been wanting to paint the outside of it black rather than the creamy yellow it is...tends to be the trend to paint your door the color of your shutters.
The first night it was done I came down the stairs from putting the kids to bed and it just seemed like this was meant to be. As if it had always been there. It just fits! I hope to find a bench/trunk to serve as a place to sit to put shoes on and perhaps store shoes in.
The khaki walls still need repainted but as you can see by this photo the walls are VERY tall. Floor to very vaulted 2nd story ceiling. The paint job will require scaffolding so that's on the agenda for a coming weekend.
Here's a during and after shot. Matt made quick work of it with his chop saw and brand new air compressor nail gun. Lots of measuring, cutting, filling, sanding, chalking and primer & paint and it was done! "Done" as in awaiting décor on the ledge/shelf & some pictures & art on the wall.
He went above and beyond using extra trim from our trim job above the front door to make new covers for the hardware on the sidelight wood blinds. Then a little peek of my 1st entry project with a bit of the new at the base of the stairs.
So glad to have that project complete. Coat season & back pack time is almost over, but it will be nice for pool towels & toys too!! Once these tall walls are painted and we paint the upstairs hall & bath we will have officially repainted the entire house which was so very needed. My laundry room project is on hold because Matt's next project is to build our new bed for the new mattress we just ordered!! I think Matt LOVES Pinterest, but HEY he gets a new tool with every project it seems so it's a fair trade off. :)
